IMMIGRATION
British national facing deportation for overstay

Miami Herald Staff Report

Stuart Creggy, a British national detained by immigration officers in South Florida last week, once served as a royal magistrate in London and later was implicated in allegations of international stock fraud.

Creggy's deportation is imminent after he was charged with overstaying his authorized stay in the United States, said Barbara Gonzalez, a Miami spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Creggy, 66, arrived in May 2001 and was admitted as a visitor on his British passport -- which entitled him to a 90-day stay, or speedy expulsion if he overstayed, Gonzalez said.

He was picked up in Palm Beach County.
