Brother of local man accused of having terrorist ties reportedly deported

    WSBT-TV report

The brother of a local man, accused of having ties to terrorism, is deported.

Kurdish immigrants, Ibrahim Parlak and his brother Huseyin, have been fighting to stay in the United States. Monday, Huseyin lost that battle.

Several of the people who have supported Ibrahim in the past, gathered Monday at his restaurant in Harbert, Michigan.

Huseyin had been living in the United States on a student visa.

A spokesperson with Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Monday that because Huseyin does not attend school, he has failed to maintain his status in the United States.

Huseyin is seeking political asylum, claiming past persecution in Turkey. His application was denied, and he is in the appeals process.

Huseyin learned Friday his motion to stay during the appeals process was denied.

During a routine meeting with immigration officials in Detroit Monday, Huseyin was arrested.

Within hours, Ibrahim learned his brother was on a plane back to Turkey.
