Thread: Brownsville family killed in Florida over drugs

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. (AP) -- Prosecutors say two men accused of killing a former Texas family along a Florida Turnpike in 2006 were settling drug debts and stealing cocaine.

Daniel Troya and Ricardo Sanchez Jr. went on trial today in West Palm Beach, Fla, on charges of armed carjacking resulting in deaths, conspiracy, weapons counts and drug offenses.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

Their lawyers implied the family was killed by Mexican drug lords.

Jose Luis Escobedo and his wife, Yessica Guerrero Escobedo were slain, along with their sons -- ages 3 and 4.

The family had moved to Florida from Brownsville, Texas.

Attorneys for Troya and Sanchez told jurors that the Escobedos were criminals who traveled to Palm Beach County to set up a cocaine operation.http://www.valleycentral.com/news/news_ ... ?id=252278
