Buchanan said immigration will cause the "complete balk

Buchanan said immigration will cause the "complete balkanization of America," create "a giant Kosovo in the Southwest"
Summary: On MSNBC's Hardball and Scarborough Country, Pat Buchanan claimed that the number of immigrants entering the United States will cause the "balkanization of America" and will create "a giant Kosovo in the Southwest." Buchanan's warning that the Southwest "is going to secede" echoed claims by other conservative commentators that some Hispanics want to "reconquer" parts of the United States that were lost during the Mexican-American war.
On the June 5 editions of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews and Scarborough Country, MSNBC political analyst and former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan claimed that the number of immigrants entering the United States will cause the "complete balkanization of America" and will create "a giant Kosovo in the Southwest." On Hardball, Buchanan claimed that "what's coming is the complete balkanization of America" whereby the United States will be separated "by ethnicity and culture, and language, and every other way" and will not be "like the country you and I grew up in," which was "monocultural." Similarly, on Scarborough Country, Buchanan claimed: "You're going to have a giant Kosovo in the Southwest, which de facto is going to secede from this country."

Buchanan's warning that the Southwest "is going to secede" echoed claims by other conservative commentators that some Hispanics want to "reconquer" parts of the United States that were lost during the Mexican-American war.

As Media Matters for America has previously noted, during the May 15 edition of Hardball, Buchanan claimed that the influx of illegal immigrants into the United States is "not immigration" but "an invasion" that is "coming not only from Mexico," but "from the whole world." Further, Media Matters noted that on the May 1 edition of Scarborough Country, Buchanan said that a Spanish-language version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" is "a provocation and an insult" and that immigrants are "not welcome to come here and insult the symbols of our country, and that's what these outsiders have done."

From the June 5 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews:

MATTHEWS: Is a worst-case scenario for you, Pat, is that the country basically becomes largely Hispanic and gay?

    [laughter]

BUCHANAN: Well, I think I'd -- no. Here's the thing. My feeling is --

MATTHEWS: No, isn't that the worst case scenario? I'm serious.

BUCHANAN: Well, the worst case scenario --

MATTHEWS: When you go to bed at night, isn't that what you worry about?

BUCHANAN: I think what's coming is the complete balkanization of America, and I'm afraid it's going to be by ethnicity and culture, and language, and every other way. And we're going to be like the Balkans, only we've got a much larger and more prosperous country. And so, then, it's not like the country you and I grew up in, Chris, whereby --

    MATTHEWS: It's already not that.

BUCHANAN: -- we were monocultural. We were monocultural.

MATTHEWS: Well, it's already not that.

From the June 5 edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country, which also featured Juan Hernandez, former adviser to Mexican President Vicente Fox:

BUCHANAN: But the point is, Joe, I don't care about the Republican Party. I don't care about politics. I do care about this country.

    HERNANDEZ: Oh.

BUCHANAN: You can't absorb -- you cannot absorb 40 to 60 million more people. You're going to have a giant Kosovo in the Southwest, which de facto is going to secede from this country, if anybody any longer cares about our country, rather than an economy.

I saw both of those interviews, and I can't believe I am actually agreeing with Pat Buchanan.

But if the invaders only wanted "parts" of the USA why are they invading all 48 states of the continential US?

I am surprised they are not sailing on boats, rafts, and inner tubes invading Alaska and Hawaii!

They want it all, and our government is handing it over to them on a sliver platter, at the American tax payers expense

Already in the works in California but dummy me didn't copy the article I saw a week or more ago. Legislation or some referendum or something was proposed that basically didn't say secession but said something to the effect that Washington wasn't gonna be it's boss. Please don't ask me to find it. I look at about twenty papers a day and not all the same papers each day. I am sure it will appear here sooner or later.

I HAVE TO GET MORE ORGANIZED! Its hard when you are in half shock every day from some other thing crawling out of the papers at you.

Has anyone noticed how the mythical Aztlan is growing? First it was California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. Now it cuts a swath diagonal from Washington through Nebraska to the Gulf of Mexico.

The hispanic population is now the majority in New Orleans. I do not know about the rest of the state but it looks to me like they are moving along the gulf and up the east coast. The heart land will be the last I guess.

    American tax payers expense
you know how to fix that... increase dependents, put the money in savings or under your bed so you have it when you need it at the end of the year.

It might seem like the a perpetual tidal wave of illegal aliens is going to be the case....but consider that when they realize what the cost of living here is and the decreasing number of jobs ensues especially with federal crackdowns/employer support ...the tide should decrease.

LoL, It will eventually have to slow down, but right now its speeding up! It looks like they ARE really going for an ethnic cleansing. If you dont like it, shut up and move.

Its kind of like the guy who bought the Redwood forest 12 years back or more. He just went in and started hacking it away, to balance the spreadsheet. It was totally decimated, before it had been carefully logged for generations.

Now with Bush pushing Amnesty, its obvious they want a DEMOGRAPHIC shift for his Brother and Nephew.

    We have a monarchy.

Isnt Scarborough supposed to be asking the TOUGH questions, instead of defending defacto amnesty?

Did Pat win the fight? it looks pretty nasty!

Unfortunately, the Mexicans are essentially acting like children trying to raid the cookie jar....the parents say "Don't go there!" and the child responds "Si, se puede." I don't live in the southwest where the number of illegal aliens is significant, but I am tired of illegals here in Brick, NJ as are most of us...and we don't put up with their crap.

    Prolegal7, you said:

"we don't put up with their crap."

What do you people do in your town? Please I'd like to know to do the same here in Miami. Thanks.

Sealyon, there are many ways of dealing with illegal aliens: English and only English or ignore, if asked if they can get work, the response is "not for illegal aliens," employers are told that if they hire an illegal alien, they will be reported, and that is just for starters. Like most of us I am not against immigration as long as it is done legally....my own family/extended family is comprised of whites, blacks, American indian, orientals and even Hispanics....but I refuse to accept people who invite themselves here and expect us to blindly accept them.

That's the same conclusion I came to awhile back. For whatever nefarious reason (many of them exposed here on the ALIPAC discussion boards), if you think about it, they are encouraging a drastic change to the makeup of the population of the USA. Their motives may not be that obvious, but what they're doing is!

How about signs that say, "Illegal Aliens Need Not Apply."
