EL CAJON – A traffic stop turned up explosives, drugs and loaded guns in a Campo man's car and home Thursday, police said yesterday.

El Cajon police motorcycle Officer Jeff Mowers stopped the man for speeding on North Marshall Avenue about 11 a.m. Thursday, Lt. Tim Henton said.

When Mowers found that the man's driver's license was suspended, he started to impound the car. The officer then searched the car and found a loaded handgun, a loaded sawed-off shotgun, explosives, detonation cord and a blasting cap, as well as a small amount of marijuana and methamphetamine, Henton said.

Police cordoned off the car and called in a sheriff's bomb squad investigator. He took away the explosives material.

The driver, 21, was arrested. Detectives obtained a search warrant for his home on state Route 94 in Campo. An El Cajon SWAT team served the warrant about 9 p.m., Henton said, and seized a small amount of marijuana and ammunition.

Five undocumented immigrants at the home were tuned over to the Border Patrol, Henton said.
