Bush, Congress Report Progress On Immigration Bill

Bush, Congress report progress on immigration reform bill
    Apr 25 6:57 PM US/Eastern

President George W. Bush hailed progress made with members of the US Senate toward an overhaul of America's immigration laws, and said there were broad areas of agreement on a compromise bill.

"There is a common desire to have a bill that enforces the border, a bill that has interior enforcement," he said.

"In other words, a bill that will hold people to account for hiring somebody who is here illegally -- but a bill that also recognizes we must have a temporary worker program," said Bush.

The president said that the legislation envisioned by both sides "does not grant automatic amnesty to people, but ... says, somebody who is working here on a legal basis has the right to get in line to become a citizen."

He added: "I strongly believe that we have a chance to get an immigration bill that is comprehensive in nature to my desk before the end of this year."

US Senate leaders have said a vote on immigration reform legislation is likely by the end of May.

Enormous differences remain however, with immigration legislation passed in the House of Representatives in December that would criminalize illegal residents and construct a fence along a vast section of the southern US border.

Well, I guess they're working behind closed doors. They must have decided that it's none of our business.

Folks, unless we can stop these idiots, I feel that we are about to become a slum third world country. How do we get through to them........... how do we make them understand that we do not want amnesty by any means, method, or name?

Apparently we don't get thru to them...they're planning on having millions in here that are subsidized by our taxes..people who are undereducated and will ultimately fall back on welfare or selling drugs or something to get by...

One thing they understand is money. The money is OURS not theirs..I've advocated a tax boycott and I continue to do so.

Politicians, listen up! The money I would have given to my political party this year as a campaign contribution will now go to someone who is physically doing something about the illegal alien problem. Some will go to ALIPAC of course, but most to Minuteman Project to help build the fence. Tell your politicians to look to the fence if they want to see where your contribution dollars are going.

reformnow, that's a good idea...but I still get hot at the thought of all the things that my tax dollars go for with which I disagree vehemently.

I know it wont mean much to them but today i just droped off in the mail to all of my congressional and senate representitives a PINK SLIP. Today i'm going to start to address and send more to the rest of them that are going against my wishes. Also will be short note stating that I will send my money to thier opponent, no matter what they are republican or democrat. Also if there is a new opponent to either or both of the older ones my money goes to that person. New blood might be willing to listen to the Tax payer for at least a few years.

I'm afraid we have already been shut out of any decision making. Never mind that we placed these FOOLS in office. Never mind what Americans want. All they seem to care about is "doing the humane thing" by letting EVERYBODY FROM MEXICO COME RIGHT IN, CAUSE THE DOOR IS WIDE OPEN AND WE ARE RIPE AND READY FOR SOME CHEAP LABOR!!! Because Bush is "THE DECIDER" and "HIS GOVERNMENT" told him its oday. If no one likes it, then they are "DISRUPTERS"!!
RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends

This makes me furious. Nobody I know or talk to wants this to happen. Poll after poll shows that at least 85 percent of America doesn't want this. Yet King Bush and his cronies don't care what we think. Our freedoms are gone if America allows this to happen. How can this fool say he's fighting for freedom and democracy when he treats his own people like 4th class citizens? He doesn't even listen to us and yet he feels he can tell other countries leaders how to treat their own people. He has put America up for sale just to appease his corporate masters. Don't worry MR illegal alien. It doesn't matter that you broke our laws, just pay a small fine and we'll give you your green card and hopefully you'll try to make an attempt to learn english, but if you don't that's ok because we'll print everything out to you in spanish at the tax payers expense. Big Business is running this country into the ground and these politicans are just puppets bought and paid for by the corrupt corporate profiteers.

Maybe the illegals should go pay King Bush a visit on his ranch, camp out there, liter the place with mounds of trash, deficate on his lawn and see how he likes it. Stupid SOB!
