U.S. citizen killed in Nuevo Laredo shooting

NUEVO LAREDO Assailants opened fire from a moving car Monday and killed two men, one of them a U.S. citizen, in Nuevo Laredo, police said.

Allan Salinas of neighboring Laredo, Texas, and Juan Compeán, a Mexican who resided in Laredo, were shot while they waited at a hot dog stand, said Hector Vallejo, a director with state police in Tamaulipas.

Salinas, 18, was shot in the head and died instantly. Compean, 25, died at a hospital, Vallejo said. The motive for the slaying was not immediately clear.

The shooter, who apparently was armed with an assault rifle, fled the scene in a car after the attack, which took place in the overnight hours.

Authorities say drug-related violence in Nuevo Laredo intensified after the man officials say is its top drug lord, Osiel Cárdenas, was arrested in 2003 during a shootout in Matamoros.

They say another accused drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, has been fighting Cárdenas to gain access to drug smuggling routes in Nuevo Laredo and other border cities.

Well Brian,
At least they told us about it, instead of throwing the body next to the border, so everyone will wonder what happened. I think in their own way, they are trying to play like they are good cops, because they are usually so corrupt..
