Sparks mulls Senate bid

GUNTERSVILLE — Only a state legislator may stand in the way of DeKalb County native Ron Sparks making a bid for the United States Senate.

Sparks, Alabama’s commissioner of agriculture and industries, told members of the Marshall County Democratic Club on Tuesday he is considering a run at the Senate in 2008.

However, Sparks said he won’t do so if he has to run a primary.

The second-term commissioner said the Democratic Party doesn’t need a fight to see who will represent it against incumbent Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile.
