Illegal drugs weighing a total of nearly one ton were intercepted at Southern California ports of entry during the Columbus Day weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

About $3.7 million worth of drugs were seized between Friday and Tuesday mornings from vehicles attempting to enter the United States, many at the San Ysidro border crossing, officials said.

Also seized was $62,409 in cash heading to Mexico that was not declared by travelers, as required by law, officials said.

The largest cache was found Monday on a 38-year-old Mexican citizen traveling on a bus who had $41,487 in a girdle strapped to her torso, officials said.

So Mexicans can visit but don't have to leave after vacation, too.
