Busy Weekend for Federal Agents at the Border

SAN DIEGO - Federal agents working at ports of entry at the U.S.- Mexico line in California over the weekend seized 1,125 pounds of illegal narcotics, confiscated nearly $84,000 in undeclared cash and caught 10 fugitives wanted for various crimes, officials reported Monday.

Between 6 a.m. Friday and 6 Monday morning, Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated 987 pounds of marijuana, 86 pounds of cocaine, 28 pounds of methamphetamine and 23 pounds of heroin from would-be smugglers, according to CBP public affairs.

The two currency seizures occurred Friday, both involving Mexico-bound pedestrians who falsely declared that they were not transporting more than the legal limit of $10,000 across the international border. One of the men was carrying $69,552, the other $14,359. (OUTBOUND)

Those arrested on outstanding warrants over the weekend were wanted on suspicion of rape, larceny, narcotics offenses and other crimes, according to the federal agency.
