Cincinnati - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers apprehended a male U.S. citizen with an active felony warrant, at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Wednesday afternoon. The warrant out of Maricopa County, Ariz., was for second degree murder and manslaughter.

CBP officers conducting routine checks on arriving flights discovered that 47-year-old Peter Normann was onboard a flight arriving from Frankfurt, Germany. CBP officers along with airport police and federal air marshals met the flight where they took custody of the subject and escorted him to a secure location for further processing.

CBP officers arrested Normann after a positive identity match revealed that he was the subject of a National Criminal Information Center warrant. NCIC is the abbreviation for National Criminal Information Center and is a centralized automated data base designed to share information among law enforcement agencies. After confirming his identity and warrant with authorities, the Airport Police Department took custody of Normann and transported him to the Boone County, Ky., Jail to await extradition.

“This apprehension by our CBP officers helps demonstrate our diligence, vigilance and dedicated commitment in apprehending and preventing wanted persons from entering this country and our communities and doing harm to others," said David Murphy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection director of field operations in Chicago.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the United States. While welcoming all legitimate travelers and trade, CBP officers enforce all applicable U.S. laws. CBP prevents narcotics, agricultural pests and smuggled goods from entering the country and also identifies and arrests those with outstanding criminal warrants.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
