SAN DIEGO - Border Patrol agents arrested 44 illegal immigrants during three smuggling attempts in San Diego County.

A smuggling boat came ashore at Torrey Pines State Beach Thursday morning with eleven suspected illegal immigrants aboard.

The Customs and Border Protection Marine unit intercepted the panga boat after it dropped off ten males and one female, arresting two smuggling suspects who were heading back out to sea. The smuggling attempt happened at 4:30 a.m.

Twenty-two illegal immigrants were arrested Wednesday morning in Shelter Valley. The Border Patrol found them hiding behind rocks waiting for transportation. Five females and 17 males were arrested, including a foot guide who will face smugging charges, according to the Border Patrol.

Twelve illegal immigrants were found crammed inside a Ford Explorer near Campo Tuesday night when agents noticed the SUV seemed to be heavily loaded.

Two U.S. citizens were arrested for smuggling the group, the 18-year-old driver and her 19-year-old passenger. The illegal immigrants consisted of ten people from Mexico, one from Honduras and one from Guatemala.

The Border Patrol reports it has apprehended 86,000 illegal immigrants in the San Diego sector in the past nine months.
