Illegal immigrants arrested in NC on drug charges

Authorities in Rockingham County have arrested two illegal immigrants living in Reidsville after sheriff's deputies seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana and $600,000 in cash.


The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said 26-year-old Jose Gomez and 30-year-old Antonio Nunez are charged with trafficking marijuana. A sheriff's deputy said Monday both men have waived their right to an attorney.


On Sunday, Rockingham sheriff's deputies and narcotics officers from the Greensboro Police Department carried out a search warrant at the home where the two men lived.

The authorities located and seized 1,060 pounds of marijuana, over $600,000 is U.S. currency and an AR-15 assault rifle.



It was also determined that the men are in the United States illegally. Both are under detainers from U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
