Border Patrol agents rescued a man who was trying to enter the United States illegally this weekend, when he was left behind by smugglers, officials said Monday.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Spokeswoman Cindy Moreno says the 25-year-old Mexican national called 911 for help around 11 a.m. Saturday, after being left behind in the mountains of Ocotillo, close to the United States/Mexico border.

CHP was able to triangulate the man's location, and help USBP and Office of Air and Marine (OAM) agents find the man via helicopter, less than a half hour after his call for help was placed.

"The subject appeared to be in good physical condition and declined any medical attention," Moreno said.

The unidentified man was taken to the El Centro Border Patrol Station for processing and further medical evaluation, Moreno added.
