Border Patrol Seizes $72K Worth Of Marijuana
National Guard Assists Agents By Detecting Backpackers

TECATE, Calif. -- According to officials, Border Patrol agents seized 90 pounds of marijuana after National Guardsmen working near the border spotted two people crossing the border fence Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the guardsmen informed agents, who responded and found two backpacks that contained the marijuana. The guardsmen saw the two subjects drop the backpacks and run back into Mexico. The marijuana is valued at approximately $72,000.

The Border Patrol turned over the illicit narcotics to Operation Alliance, a collaborative multi-agency anti-drug taskforce.


Officials said the San Diego Sector Border Patrol seized more than 23,223 pounds of marijuana in fiscal year 2008.
