CALEXICO A man deported to Mexico following a conviction of sex with a minor out of Santa Ana was arrested Tuesday by U.S. Border Patrol agents in the desert about 13 miles west of the Calexico port of entry.

The man identified as Jesus Bermudez-Alvear, a 34-year-old Mexican national, was taken into custody as he illegally entered the United States, the Border Patrol said in a statement.

The arrest was made by Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Station.

Criminal record checks revealed Bermudez is a convicted sex offender for an offense involving a minor out of Santa Ana, according to the Border Patrol.

Bermudez was previously deported from the United States and served a 60-day prison term and a three-year supervised release in 2000, according to the Border Patrol.

Bermudez remains in the custody of the Border Patrol at Imperial County Jail. Seven sex offender have been arrested in the Border Patrol’s El Centro Sector area this year.
