LAKE FOREST – A 49-year-old man wearing a Taco Bell uniform and riding a bike illegally was charged with falsely identifying himself as a resident alien and for possession of a counterfeit government seal, police said.
At 3:14 p.m. Monday, Jaime Mercadoocegueda was riding his mountain bike on the sidewalk on Jeronimo Road in the opposite direction of traffic when a deputy stopped him, Sgt. Angel Andrade said.
The deputy stopped him for riding on the sidewalk in traffic in violation of the vehicle code. He stopped and asked him for identification. The man provided him a resident alien card, Andrade said.
It appeared the card was a counterfeit document, according to the deputy. Through continued investigation, the deputy was able to determine that the resident card belonged to a woman, Andrade said. After further efforts to identify Mercadoocegueda, he came across a Social Security card that appeared suspicious, Andrade said.
"In questioning the subject, he admitted that he bought both cards from a street vendor in Santa Ana," Andrade said.
Mercadoocegueda, who according to police documents is a cook, was taken to Orange County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
