CBP Arrests Absconder at Arizona Port

Douglas, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a man after he had absconded from CBP officers in order to avoid inspection.

On Saturday, May 30 at approximately 11 p.m., CBP officers were screening traffic when they came in contact with 29-year-old-man identified as a resident of Douglas, Ariz. As the CBP officers approached him to conduct an inspection, the man became nervous and ran back to Mexico. Later that same day the man tried to enter the U.S. again by attempting to blend in with the legitimate pedestrian traffic. One of the CBP officers recognized him as the prior absconder and the man was arrested.

The 29-year-old Douglas man had attempted to avoid inspection by absconding back to Mexico. The man was assessed a penalty in the amount of $5,000.00 under 19USC1436 and 19USC1433 (Penalties for violations of arrival, reporting, entry, and clearance requirements).
