Two brothers wanted for a three-year-old murder in Mexico who were arrested Monday in south Monterey County have been deported, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said today.

At 11 a.m. Monday, Monterey County Sheriff’s detectives helped agents from the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’ homeland security investigations officers in locating Miguel Mendoza-Sarabia, 33, and Alonso Mendoza-Sarabia, 25, at a ranch south of King City.

The two men were taken into custody without incident on administrative immigration violations, ICE officials said. They said the brothers came into the country illegally and voluntarily agreed to return to Mexico.

Today, ICE said, the siblings were turned over to Mexican law enforcement officials at the San Ysidro border crossing. They said brothers are accused of fatally shooting Heraclio Soto Felix as he walked home from a Mother’s Day gathering on May 11, 2008, in Nuevo Mundo, Sinaloa.

ICE officials said the motive of the murder is unknown.

Since April 2009, ICE officers nationwide have coordinated the removal of more than 175 foreign nationals being sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder.
