Illegal Alien Murder Suspect Turned Over To Mexico

    CBP News Release

Border Patrol Hands Over Custody of Illegal Alien Murder Suspect Wanted in Mexico

    (Thursday, January 08, 2009)

El Paso, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents from the El Paso Sector turned over custody of a man wanted for homicide in Mexico to Mexican authorities.

On Thursday, Border Patrol agents in Albuquerque, N.M., working in conjunction with the New Mexico State Police, were notified about the possibility of a male subject living in the area that may be wanted for murder in Mexico.

The individual was taken into custody and processed for positive identification. The inquiry resulted in a positive match identifying Fermin Cabrera-Quintero as an individual present in the United States illegally after previously having been deported. Further investigation found the subject was wanted in Mexico in connection with a homicide.

The Border Patrol’s International Liaison Unit in El Paso contacted Mexican authorities to inform them of the arrest. They also informed them of the intent to transport the subject to the Border Patrol processing center in El Paso to be repatriated back to Mexico. Border Patrol agents escorted the subject to the international boundary via the Stanton Bridge where authorities from Mexican Immigration and the PGR were waiting to take custody of the subject.

This latest event exemplifies the efforts of the U.S. Border Patrol to continue to develop a strong working relationship with other law enforcement agencies and the Mexican government by sharing information and having a level of cooperation that is mutually beneficial to our border communities.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
