AZ-Prosecutors file Arizona's first employer sanctions case
Prosecutors file Arizona's first employer sanctions case
Last Update: 2:29 pm
PHOENIX -- Maricopa County prosecutors say they have filed Arizona's first civil complaint against a business under a 22-month-old state law that prohibits employers from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas says the manager of the Scottsdale Art Factory used a "subcontractor" who was really an illegal immigrant to avoid the law's requirement that employees be legal workers.
Thomas says sheriff's investigators have the manager on tape telling an undercover informant that she was trying to get around the employer sanctions law
The civil suit seeks a minimum 10-day license suspension.
Businesses found to have knowingly hired illegal immigrants can have their business licenses suspended or revoked.
