SAN FRANCISCO—Authorities say a 30-year-old inmate at the Marin County Jail has been found dead in his cell.

Marin County Sheriff's Sgt. Debra Barry says a correctional deputy discovered Jose Carrillo-Sanchez unresponsive and hanging from a sheet tied to the bunk bed Tuesday.

Paramedics responded and attempted to revive Carrillo-Sanchez, but he was pronounced dead.

Carrillo-Sanchez had been arrested Sept. 19 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. He was also in custody for an immigration hold.

Barry says he did not have a cellmate, and there were no initial signs of foul play. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.
