Murder-suicide gunman had been deported three times

WHITTIER - A convicted felon who killed his girlfriend Monday and then turned the gun on himself had been deported to Mexico three times since 2004.

Gustavo Fausto Tellez Jr., whose record includes felony assault and spousal abuse, appealed his first deportation order in 2001. He lost the appeal and was deported to Mexico in 2004, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Virginia Kice said Tuesday.

In February 2005, ICE agents found Tellez in the Ventura County jail serving time for drug possession and resisting arrest, according to officials and court records. He was deported, for the second time, from Los Angeles County Jail.

Days after deportation, Tellez was caught trying to cross back into the United States at San Ysidro, south of San Diego, Kice said.

The bodies of Tellez, 35, and Suzanna Charon Jaramillo, 32, were found by a friend Monday in the bedroom of their Newlin Avenue apartment, police said.

Investigators believe Tellez fatally shot Jaramillo before shooting himself, said Whittier police spokesman Jason Zhulke.

Though the incident remains under investigation, "evidence thus far indicates that he shot her," Zhulke said.

Tellez's criminal history stretches back to 1992 when he pleaded guilty to resisting arrest. The same year, he pleaded guilty to being a minor in possession of alcohol.

assault with a deadly weapon. That same year he also pleaded guilty to a charge of spousal abuse and was sentenced to 180 days in the Ventura County Jail, according to official records.

Police said Tuesday they believe a domestic argument led to the murder-suicide of the Newlin Avenue couple.

The couple had been involved in other disputes, Zhulke said, but before Monday afternoon none had turned violent.

Autopsies will be performed on the pair today, said Lt. Fred Corral of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

The deaths occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in a second-floor apartment in the 7600 block of Newlin Avenue.

A friend of the couple called police after discovering the bodies in a bedroom, Whittier police Lt. Wyatt Powell said.

Both suffered single gunshot wounds to the head, and the gun was found near Tellez's body, Zhulke said.

A 12-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl lived in the apartment and were turned over to Los Angeles County Children and Family Services.

Anyone who opposes a fence on our souther border is indirectly responsible for this tragedy. This guy should have been doing 20 years in prision when he re-entered this country after being deported the first time.

If these low lifes are going to continue to come back and steal tax payers money after being deported, then atleast it should be money that feeds and clothes them during their long stay in prison.

colombiana - Hi there. Welcome aboard.

Sorry to learn of this tragic situation. Yes indeed, there are way too many 'unknowns' which remain in the status quo.

Will you help us so someone else doesn't have to suffer in such a way?
