The nationwide effort to keep two border patrol agents out of jail came to San Diego Saturday as hundreds gathered in a rally downtown.

Protestors came bearing signs and American flags asking for justice for Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos. The border patrol agents were convicted of shooting a drug smuggler along the Texas-Mexico border last year.

The men are set to start serving their sentences in federal prison this Wednesday.

"This is a travesty of justice and we've been asking for months for the Bush administration to step in," said Shaun Moran of the San Diego Border Patrol Union. "We don't necessarily need a pardon. Give them a new trial."

Thirteen other cities nationwide have scheduled similar rallies for Sunday.
