One arrested on suspicion of DUI at checkpoint

One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at a DUI and driver's license checkpoint held Friday night and into early this morning in Santa Maria, police said.

In addition, 10 people were cited for allegedly driving without a license, one person was cited for allegedly driving on a suspended license and 10 vehicles were impounded. All 10 vehicles impounded were driven by undocumented immigrants, Santa Maria police said.

A total of 2,049 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, conducted from 6 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. today in the 900 block of North Broadway.

Funding for the program is provided by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
