Police: 2 Men Arrested With Over 100 Fighting Roosters

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Two men were arrested Thursday afternoon when they were found with over 100 fighting roosters and 21 pounds of marijuana, officials said.Deputies said that at about 4 p.m., they conducted a probation search at 1132 Lomita Drive, in Bakersfield.Deputies said they found Moctezuma Chavez, 38, standing in the driveway of the home. Deputies said they also found Fernando Bravo, 20, in a shed located on the back of the property.

A large amount of processed marijuana, ¼ ounce of methamphetamine, and two rifles, including an SKS assault rifle, were in the shed with Bravo, deputies said.

The shed was next to an open area containing over 100 suspected fighting roosters and five marijuana plants protected by chicken wire, deputies said.Deputies said they searched a camper trailer in the back yard which contained paperwork for Chavez as well as numerous pounds of processed marijuana, scales, packaging, 13 socks filled with suspected hi-grade marijuana seeds, two pistols, packaged rooster fighting blades, a small amount of cocaine, and bag containing approximately three ounces of suspected methamphetamine.

The total weight of the seized processed marijuana was nearly 21 pounds, deputies said.Bravo and Chavez were booked on charges of possession of marijuana and methamphetamine for sale, cultivation of marijuana and numerous other weapons and narcotics violations.Both were booked into the Kern County Jail.Additionally, an immigration detainer was placed on Chavez for being an undocumented illegal alien. The investigation is continuing.
