    If the Roman Catholic Church would equal the fervor that Evangelicals have shown in improving the lives of Third World populations, there would be no need for those same people to emigrate to this country.

    Well, they are slowly joining in. Sun-Belt fundamentalist churches have been sending teams of volunteers south of the border for the last thirty years, and this has grown to a nationwide phenomenon. Catholics and liberals are starting to join in, too. Catholic are also losing out to fundamentalists in Latin America itself. I guess this means lower population growth. Maybe they are getting desperate.
