Allegation spurs crackdown on illegal encampments

POWAY – After an illegal immigrant was charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy, Poway plans to get more aggressive in shutting down illegal encampments.
Last month, authorities successfully used a police helicopter equipped with a heat-seeking sensor to capture the suspect. They arrested Jesús Mora Nava, 30, five hours after the boy reported that Nava lured him into the brush, where he had apparently been living, near a middle school.

The city plans to use a helicopter and sensors to hunt for similar encampments, City Manager Rod Gould said.

“It's a much more efficient way to find them in difficult terrain,â€

Civil liberty and illegal immigrant rights groups complained after the Sheriff's Department rounded up 85 Latino residents and charged six with sexual assault allegations, which were later dropped.

And where were all these civil liberty attorneys when a lacrosse team was falsely accused of gang rape?
