WHAT DOES THIS BORDER PATROL AGENT THINK HE IS DOING???? Shooting at a hard working illegal immigrant that is just minding his own business??? Can't an illegal alien speed in his own stolen car if he wants (with a ton of cocaine in the trunk of course)??? Why are his rights being violated by this border agent?????? He needs a good lawyer to teach this Border Patrol agent a lesson. The nerve of him!

LIVE OAK SPRINGS, Calif. -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent opened fire on the occupants of a truck during a confrontation near an East County gambling hall Friday, seriously wounding at least one of them, authorities reported.

The officer-involved shooting on a roadside in front of Golden Acorn Casino in the rural Live Oak Springs area was reported about 11:30 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Mike Munsey said.

The chain of events leading to the gunfire began when plainclothes personnel with the federal agency began following the pickup near the U.S.-Mexico line, believing the vehicle might be connected to smuggling operations, Border Patrol public affairs Agent James Jacques told a local TV station.

The suspect driver pulled over alongside Old Highway 80, just south of Interstate 8 and Crestwood Road, but then accelerated the truck toward one of the agents as he approached on foot, prompting him to open fire, Jacques said.

Both occupants of the truck were wounded, at least one of them seriously, a local TV station reported.

The federal officers were uninjured, according to Jacques.

CAMPO, Calif. -- At least two people were hospitalized Friday, after a shooting involving agents and suspected smugglers near a casino, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

The incident happened outside of the Golden Acorn, off Old Highway 80, in Campo, Calif.

Border Patrol officials at the scene told NBC affiliate KNSD-TV that the incident started when plainclothes agents in an unmarked vehicle began following a car they believed was smuggling illegal immigrants.

Agents did not tell KNSD-TV how long the car was being followed, but at some point, officials said the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road. The agents pulled over and exited their car, showing their badges and identifying themselves, officials said.

As the agents were standing on the road, the Border Patrol said the vehicle began driving in reverse toward one agent, and then the vehicle went forward, in the direction of a second agent. Officials told KNSD-TV that the agents felt threatened, and opened fire. The car then went off the road.

One person was shot, and has been transported to a hospital in critical condition, KNSD-TV reported. A second person was also transported with injuries, but the Border Patrol said it was unclear if the injuries were from the shooting or from the car losing control.

Agents said they believed at least one other person was in the car, but it is unclear what happened to that individual

Suspected Smugglers Shot by Border Patrol

Two suspected human smugglers are shot after a run-in with border patrol agents near an East County casino. The plainclothes agents fired at the men as they were entering a truck stop at the Golden Acorn Casino in Campo. It happened Friday morning off Old Highway 80, just seven miles from Mexico.

Sheriff’s homicide Lieutenant Dennis Brugos said when the agents identified themselves, the pickup backed up, then headed straight toward the agents, who feared for their lives.

“It was almost a simultaneous thing, as they were trying to get out of the way and firing at the vehicle,â€

I'm quite sure that Mexico, LaRaza and the usual cast of characters, will have something to say about this.

Let's see, if memory serves, the script should go something like : the BP was "racially profiling hispanics" and the attempt to run them down was an action motivated by "fear" within the "migrant community" resulting from the "atmosphere of hate" surrounding the immigration debate and being fostered by "a small but vocal group with a racist agenda".

Is that about all, or have I left something out?

With the way things have been going at the border, the injured illegals will file a lawsuit and win and the BP agents will end up in prison.

Most likely the folks involved here are locals (Americans) just out to make a few bucks.
I'm somewhat familar with that area and there is a lot of smuggling going on due to the rural area and the proximity to the border.

Suspected Smuggler Shot By Border Patrol Agents Dies

    POSTED: 2:56 pm PST February 4, 2008
    UPDATED: 5:23 pm PST February 4, 2008

SAN DIEGO -- A suspected migrant smuggler shot by Border Patrol agents as he allegedly steered a truck toward them near an East County gambling hall died at a hospital, a sheriff's official said Monday.

Ronald Deugan, 49, of Potrero, succumbed to his injuries Sunday night, homicide Lt. Dennis Brugos said.

Three Border Patrol officers opened fire on the pickup he was driving Friday morning in front of Golden Acorn Casino in rural Live Oak Springs.

A front-seat passenger hit by gunfire remains hospitalized, Brugos said. Four other suspected illegal immigrants riding in a back seat of the extended-cab truck were unharmed.

The chain of events leading to the confrontation began about 11:30 a.m. Friday when federal officials got a report that a pickup carrying possible undocumented migrants was traveling through Campo, near the international line.

Plainclothes Border Patrol personnel in unmarked vehicles caught up with the truck a short time later and tailed it east on State Route 94, then north on Church Road to Old Highway 80.

When the pickup driver stopped at an intersection at a commercial-vehicle entrance to the casino, the agents pulled over and approached the vehicle on foot.

At that point, the suspect driver backed up the truck, hit the brakes and accelerated forward toward one or more of the agents, prompting all three to fire on the vehicle, according to Border Patrol officials.

The pickup then veered into a ravine on the north side of Old Highway 80 and rolled to a stop. Medics took the driver and front-seat passenger to trauma centers.

Brugos said he did not know the medical status of the wounded suspect, who is believed to be an undocumented immigrant.

The lieutenant did say, however, that the man has been able to speak with investigators from his hospital bed.

The suspect likely will not face criminal charges stemming from the officer-involved shooting, according to Brugos.
