Calderon Says Mexican Immigration to U.S. Can't Be Stopped

Oct. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Mexican President Felipe Calderon said the illegal immigration of Mexicans to the U.S. can't be stopped because of the strong demand for inexpensive labor there.

``It's impossible to stop that by decree. It's impossible to try to stop that with a fence,'' Calderon said today in a taped interview with ABC News' ``Good Morning America.''

A lack of job prospects prompts more than 400,000 Mexicans to enter the U.S. each year seeking work both legally and illegally, according to the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington.

The U.S. Senate this month voted to spend $3 billion for more fences, patrol agents and surveillance along the U.S.- Mexico border. Calderon said he's seeking to improve economic conditions in Mexico so that citizens don't have to leave the country for work.

``In the future, I can't imagine a Mexico without enough economic growth to provide for them,'' Calderon said during the ABC interview. ``I want to build the conditions in Mexico to provide the opportunities here.''

I heard on a radio program this morning something to the effect that he though in another 10 years....when they get their economy fixed....people would probably stop comming.

If laws and a fence won't stop illegal entry.......the options are turning more ugly.

I think we could put our army on the front lines couldn't we? If that is what it takes to stop the Mexican Invasion. They can't force us to pay for these people any longer.

Hmmm..........it's always tomorrow, isn't it? In 10 years the damage to our country will probably be irreversible.

We will all be hiding out that is for sure.

Oh yes it can -- we just need the political will to build the fence and engage in interior enforcement. And of course it will be helpful if Mexico finally cleans up its act and provides opportunities for its own people.

The problem with the illegals going back is that they have had it too good here for too long and they will start a (MOD EDIT) like no other. We need to have that fence in place so it does not filter back across our borders. Bush knows this, Cladron knows this and so does every politican who lives in a border state.

Very true I'm afraid. Our gov't has allowed this to go on for so long, illegals may (MOD EDIT). When you point out that Bush, Calderon and others know this, the question becomes why would our gov't be steering us towards (MOD EDIT). Given that illegals kill more Americans than the war in Iraq, (MOD EDIT)

We can use these outrageous and false statements from Calderon in our calls and faxes to Congress: how DARE he meddle in our internal politics and affairs -- he should spend time fixing his OWN country.
