78 percent of U.S. Hispanics favor Obama over McCain

78 percent of U.S. Hispanics favor Obama over McCain

PHOENIX (Reuters) – In the final stretch to the U.S. presidential election, more than three quarters of likely Hispanic voters say they support Democrat Barack Obama over Republican John McCain, a study found.

The Univision/Reuters/Zogby poll released on Tuesday said that 78 percent of a sample of 1,016 Latino likely voters favored Sen. Obama, with 13 percent supporting McCain, an Arizona senator.

The poll, which was conducted between October 30 and November 2, found that 54 percent of respondents said the economy and jobs were the most important issue in deciding who to vote for, followed by health care and immigration, with 12 percent and 11 percent respectively.

Hispanics make up 15 percent of the U.S. population and 9 percent of the electorate, and could be a critical swing voting bloc in battleground states in the U.S. Southwest as well as Florida on Tuesday.

In 2004, President George W. Bush won about 40 percent of the Latino vote -- a Republican record -- when he beat Democrat John Kerry. But opinion polls show Republican standing among Hispanics has since been hurt by a shrill national debate over immigration reform and a worsening economy.

A survey by Zogby International last month found that 70 percent of Hispanic likely voters favored Obama, with 21 percent favoring McCain.

Of Course. The Republicans pandered to them,Bush, Karl Rove and McCain thinking these people would some day be republicans. What a joke! Now, they've allowed millions of them in, millions more will be added to the Democratic Party and essentially you can write the Republican Party off, potentially forever.

I find that rather interesting. I just read somewhere that, because of their cultural influences, most Hispanice are pro-life. Obama sure isn't! Go figure.

Yes its true Catholics are pro-life, but I think what is more important to hispanics is what the government can do for them, i.e., more hand outs. As a Catholic and native Southern Californian I know that most hispanics, that are American, native born, are very conservative. Those who come in illegally could care less about America, its all about what America can do for them.

Tried to type a few different responses here but I figure I better stop myself.

All I can say is gratz to the sheeple who drunk the kool aid.

Some of people in the voting lines remind me of a deer at night when you shine a headlight or spot light on them.
We can't deport them all ? Just think of the fun we could have trying!

They screwed you McCain. You went and begged and offered Amnesty to illegals and ran all those ads in Spanish. You blew away your base and the Hispanic vote left you to. McCain, the dog that wanted two bones.

I can't agree with you more. Amnesty is next, just watch! and those will be future voters...California is a lost cause, that's why i didn't bother going to vote.
