EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- A Mexican citizen, living illegally in the US under three aliases, was sentenced in East St. Louis Tuesday.
Jose Guadalupe Guajardo-Gonzalez, also known as Alberto Serrano-Franco, and also known as Alejandro Garcia-Morales, 34, of Tamaulipas, Mexico was sentenced to a prison term in federal district court for possession of a firearm by an illegal alien and false claim to U.S. citizenship.
Gonzalez, a Mexican national, who had been living for several years in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was arrested on December 12, 2010 on Choteau Island in Madison County, Illinois after he and three other men discharged a firearm in a restricted area.
While being booked in the Madison County Jail, Gonzalez falsely stated that his name was Alejandro Garcia-Morales and claimed that he was a U.S. citizen, authorities said. Gonzalez also gave authorities a Social Security Number of another person and said it was his own.
Gonzales was released on bond following his arrest and remained at large until January 11, 2012, when he was arrested by federal authorities in Tennessee.
Gonzalez was sentenced in federal district court in East St. Louis Tuesday to 18 months in prison, one year supervised release, a $200 special assessment, and a fine of $150, following his plea of guilty, on May 15, 2012. He is also subject to deportation.
The other three men who accompanied Gonzalez on Choteau Island were also illegal immigrants were sentenced on related charges and have since been deported.
