A California Reader Reports The LA Metro System Caters To Aliens; etc.
From: Claire Winston (e-mail her)

I ride the Los Angeles Metro buses around Santa Monica and greater LA every day. I notice how Metro advertises LA County: “With its vibrant mix of culture, art and entertainment, Los Angeles County is more diverse than most nations “

Metro does all that it can to promote diversity. The vast majority of people who ride the bus with me are illegal immigrants. The buses have televisions for the riders’ entertainment. Unfortunately, most programming on these California taxpayer-funded buses, driving in an American city, is broadcast in Spanish.

The Spanish-language newspaper La Opinion updates aliens on the latest Senate immigration proposals. Also, there's the Spanish-language weather service, segments about the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, Latinos in Hollywood, Latinos in Fashion, Latinos in Music, Latinos in Art and the Latino American Station for Latino Teens.

As I sit on the bus watching these programs, I wonder: does this help immigrants assimilate?

The answer is no, it doesn’t.

And the does the Los Angeles city government, now dominated by Hispanics, want aliens to assimilate?

Again, my answer is no.

Go to the Universal Studio subway station where the pillars depicting famous Americans are written in Spanish. On the Hollywood buses that drive along Sunset Blvd., it would make sense to play biographies of Marilyn Monroe, Howard Hughes, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Lucy and Desi, Sidney Poitier in English.

But since those icons are non-Latinos, Hispanic bus riders wouldn’t be interested in them even though they built Hollywood. Instead, the focus is only on Latino stars.

Why should Hispanics participate in American culture when they can take over American infrastructure, rewrite history and make it their own?

Let's face it. Latino immigrants, (and many municipal officials) have no intention of assimilating. They are far too happy having there own festivals, celebrating their own people in their own language. They don't care about anyone who is not a part of the Latino community…and why should they?

We encourage them even on our public transportation system. The federal government should post ICE agents at bus stops.
