Republican members of the California State Senate on Wednesday chose a new leader with a tough stance on immigration reform.

State Sen. Bob Huff of Diamond Barr won the position on a unanimous vote, replacing outgoing leader Bob Dutton.

Although Huff majored in psychology in college, his background is primarily in agriculture. He grew up on a farm in the Imperial Valley, served as vice president of a grain handling company and was president and co-owner of an commodity wholesale firm.

He is a former member of the Diamond Bar Planning Commission who went on to serve on the city council and as mayor.

Huff served as a member of the state assembly before his election to the senate.

Among the immigration reform bills Huff has introduced are:

Repeal 14th Amendment of U.S. Constitution: The bill would urge Congress to repeal the section of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. constitution which guarantees birthright citizenship.

Reporting Illegal Juveniles to ICE: The bill would require local authorities to report juveniles to Immigration and Customs Enforcement when they have been charged with a violent felony.

Illegal Immigrant Employer Penalties: The bill outlines a business license revocation process for those employers who hire illegal immigrants.

Sanctuary Cities Prohibition: The bill would prohibit local entities and authorities from establishing themselves as "sanctuary cities" that disallow cooperation with state and federal authorities on illegal immigration.

Denial of Bail: The bill would deny bail to any person charged with a gang-related crime or violent felony.
