Senate approves driver's

licenses for illegal immigrants

SACRAMENTO The Senate is advancing a bill that would let the state issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, over the objections of Republicans including Governor Schwarzenegger.

Senator Gil Cedillo (Sah-Dee'-oh) says his bill is needed as the deadline approaches for California to comply with new federal regulations for identification documents adopted after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

But the Senate rejected an amendment that would have met the federal rules without letting illegal immigrants drive.

The measure now goes to the Assembly.

This is Cedillo's latest attempt in eight years to pass an immigrant driver's bill.

This is ridiculous and why this is even being considered astounds me. Greater mobility for illegal aliens means the spread of more crime, drugs and diseases. In New jersey where I live, a corrupt state representative named Vas proposed a driver's certificate for illegal aliens a few months ago....this was denounced by the governor who stated that it would not comply with the REAL ID act that is being implemented.

They're racing to make illegals aliens legal as fast as they can.

This is not rocket science here, if they are in the country illegally they should not have drivers licenses or any other government/state forms of ID. These people are idiots

With the House standing firm (so far) it does appear that the pro-amnesty pushers are working overtime to get illegals as firmly entrenched as possible.
