LAS CRUCES - An Arizona woman was indicted by a federal grand jury in Las Cruces on charges that she attempted to smuggle money into Mexico, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales.
Daisy Beltran, 19, of Tempe, Ariz., is charged with knowingly concealing more than $10,000 when transporting the currency out of the country. She was found with $13,700 during an inspection Aug. 25 at the Columbus Port of Entry. Before the money was found in her purse, Beltran had allegedly told Border Patrol agents that she was not transporting more than $10,000 across the border.
