2 Arizona sheriffs request meeting with Napolitano

2 Arizona sheriffs request meeting with Napolitano

    Associated Press

FLORENCE - The sheriffs of Pinal and Cochise counties have requested a meeting with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano after the killing of a Border Patrol agent.

Thursday's request comes days after Napolitano held a conference call with sheriffs and police chiefs from 30 jurisdictions along the Southwest border.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu and Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever say they weren't invited to participate in Tuesday's conference call. Both say they're surprised by the apparent snub because they've made border security a priority.

Napolitano is in Arizona through Friday to meet with Border Patrol agents in Nogales and Tucson. Her visit comes in the wake of agent Brian A. Terry's death late Tuesday night in a shootout with suspected bandits near the Arizona-Mexico border.
