March 2012 Issue VII
Welcome to E-Verify Connection, an e-newsletter from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for U.S. employers and workers. Each issue will bring you updates about E-Verify’s advances and activities, as well as other useful information related to employment eligibility verification. A pdf version of E-Verify Connection is available online.

What’s Hot in E-Verify?
CNMI Employers Can Now Use E-Verify
Employers in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI) can now enroll to use E-Verify. All CNMI employers—whether they use E-Verify or not— are also reminded that they must use the standard Form I-9 and can no longer use Form I-9 CNMI (which was phased out in late 2011). USCIS has scheduled a series of Form I-9 webinars for CNMI employers. Check here for the schedule!

Who Uses E-Verify?
More than 345,000 employers are enrolled to use E-Verify. Now you can see the list of enrolled employers and federal contractors on the E-Verify website.

E-Verify Webinar in Spanish
E-Verify has been invited by the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia to present a webinar about E-Verify in Spanish on April 9th. See the announcement for more information.

E-Verify Education in Iowa
In February, E-Verify informed employers in five cities in Iowa about E-Verify. The seminars were hosted by the Iowa Office of Workforce Development. If your agency or organization would like to bring information about E-Verify from DHS experts to your area or members, send an e-mail request to E-Verify@dhs.gov.

E-Verify User Manuals Available Online
E-Verify information is always at your fingertips. A variety of user manuals posted on the E-Verify website provide easy-to-find answers to most E-Verify questions. The user manuals are customized for three distinct user audiences: Employers, Federal Contractors, and E-Verify Employer Agents. Click here to access User Manuals.

Tip: Form I-9 and Receipts

What can a new employee do if their Form I-9 documentation is lost, stolen, or damaged? An employee may present an acceptable receipt that shows they have recently applied to replace the unavailable List A, B, or C document. Visit I-9 Central to learn about the three types of acceptable receipts and how the employer should handle this situation.

Self Check is Available Nationwide
Workers residing anywhere in the U.S. can now use Self Check to verify their own employment eligibility. On February 9, 2012, USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas announced that Self Check’s availability was expanded from twenty-one states to all 50 states and U.S. territories. Self Check is the free online service of E-Verify that lets job seekers securely confirm the accuracy of the same information checked by E-Verify.

Self Check Website Receives a Makeover
The Self Check Website has a new look in both English and Spanish. Discover exciting features such as the new Facts and Myths, helpful questions and answers, and updated Self Check instructions. Click on the Self Check Information Toolkit to find new informational materials, including brochures, flyers, press releases, blogs, and much more! Visit the Website to view a new short video about the Self Check process.

Excellence in Government Award to Self Check!
The USCIS Self Check Team has received the 2012 Excellence.Gov Award for Excellence in Enhancing the Customer Experience for the creation and implementation of Self Check. Excellence.Gov described E-Verify Self Check as an “innovative technological achievement” and “a ground-breaking partnership between the technical solutions provider and business owner.”

Self Check Logo License
Entities that assist and advise job seekers may request authorization to use the Self Check logo. Visit the Self Check Website to review the agreement, guidelines, and fill out the license application.
Form I-9: Request for Comments
On March 27, 2012, USCIS published a notice in the Federal Register inviting public comment on a revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. To view the entire update, click here.
