Canadian border

Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y. - Rochester, N.Y.

The reason I and others are opposed to the new passport requirements for the northern border is that it's a pointless exercise ("Liberty gets her view back," Cover story, News, Thursday).

The new rules will result in increased lines, will be a burden to families and small businesses and are almost certainly unlikely to make this country safer.

Terrorists who want to harm us can slip into the U.S. along hundreds of miles of unguarded borders. I'd be surprised to see one naively walk across the beautiful Peace Bridge in Buffalo with an armful of weapons and bad intentions.
