Canton Police have charged a man who they said molested three children inside of a Canton home earlier this month. A spokesperson for the Canton Police Department said Oscar Eduviges Vicente currently is in custody at the Cherokee County jail.

Canton detectives began investigating the alleged molestation after police were dispatched to the 200 block of East Killian Street Aug. 7. Lt. Jeff Tucker said a woman inside of the home had claimed three juveniles were molested by Vicente, who also lived at the house.

"After a thorough investigation, Vicente was arrested and charged with three counts of child molestation," Tucker said, adding that the offense is a felony.

Vicente is being held without bond and a hold has been placed on him by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

    Oscar Eduviges Vicente

CANTON — A Canton man indicted last week by a Cherokee County grand jury on charges of molesting three young sisters is expected to enter a plea in the case in November.

Oscar “Alex” Eduviges Vicente was indicted by the grand jury Oct. 14 on three counts of child molestation, which stem from his arrest by the Canton Police Department in August, according to Cherokee Clerk of Court’s Office records.

Vicente was arrested Aug. 7 after the mother of the girls called police to report the crimes had taken place at their home on East Killian Street, where the suspect also lived.

Police said at the time of his arrest it was not known what relation, if any, Vicente was to the victims, and it appeared he only lived in the home with the mother and three victims.

According to his indictment, Vicente committed the crimes against the girls just one day before his arrest on Aug. 6 when he allegedly performed an indecent act in front of them.

Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit District Attorney Shannon Wallace said Tuesday that Vicente is planned to have a formal reading of his charges Nov. 21, when he will be able to enter a plea in the case.

If convicted, he could face a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, Wallace said.

Since being arrested Aug. 7, Vicente has been in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, according to Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

He is being held for immigration officials, pending his charges.
