New federal force will work on capturing, deporting immigrant fugitives
By LYNN FRANEY
The Kansas City Star
A federal team is being formed in Kansas City to catch and deport immigrants who have been ordered to leave the country but continue to live here.
The team will be part of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Kansas City.
Immigration officers here already detain and remove undocumented immigrants, but this will add staff specializing in arrests of absconders who disappear after receiving a deportation order, or who return after they are deported.
The team should be operating within four months, said Julie Myers, assistant secretary for immigration and customs enforcement in the Department of Homeland Security.
A new group called Sons and Daughters of Immigrants, which seeks to educate the public on immigration issues, said the task force would be a good idea if it removes people who have proved they are not a benefit to society, such as those with criminal convictions.
But spokeswoman Martha Ramirez questioned the value of removing immigrants who are working and paying taxes.
“It doesn’t make sense for someone who is working, being a good role model to their children,” Ramirez said.
Fugitive operation teams have been formed in various cities since Immigration and Customs Enforcement was created in 2003 out of the reorganization of the old Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement focuses on enforcing immigration laws in the interior of the country.
Another agency focuses on enforcement on America’s borders.

I think this "Martha" will be looking for a new job soon, eh?
GO SPECIAL FORCE!!
Round em up, Head em out, Rawhide!!
Yippee!!
But I do question WHY Kansas City?
Wouldn't they have a richer deportation market in Dallas or Los Angeles or Miami?
Maybe they are just training in Kansas City.

Someone always plays the "for the children" card.
Ms. Ramirez might want to think twice the next time she is tempted to use children as pawns. It sure doesn't work here. Being ILLEGAL invaders of a country is definitely NOT a "good role model to their children."
