PORTLAND, Ore. -- Washington County deputies arrested a car prowl suspect Friday after he was found hiding in a thicket of blackberry bushes.

Deputies said Carlos Favela-Martinez, 20, used a backpack to carry car stereos and other items stolen from cars in the Garden Home area of southwest Portland. Favela-Matinez also had a stolen laptop, authorities said.

Deputies were first called to the area after a citizen called 911 to report a man knocked on his door and needed help because he had been assaulted.

Less than 30 minutes later, deputies received another report of a man claiming to need help; however, the man was caught inside a victim's car, trying to steal a stereo.

Deputies searched the area with a K-9, found two more victims of car break-ins, and then eventually found Favela-Martinez.

Favela-Martinez has been booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of theft, criminal mischief, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, giving false information to a police officer and a felony warrant for possession of cocaine from Multnomah County.

A call to the Washington County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Favela-Martinez is also being held on suspicion of being in the country illegally and has an active ICE hold.
