CBP agent charged with sexually abusing child

MISSION — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Jesus Reyes was arrested Thursday at the Anzalduas International Bridge and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to authorities.

The 41-year-old Mission resident spent the night in jail and was released Friday on a $150,000 bond, officials at the Hidalgo County Jail confirmed.

CBP issued a statement Saturday confirming the arrest but referred further questions regarding the case to the Mission Police Department, said Felix Garza, a local spokesman for the federal agency.

When asked for comment, Mission police spokesman Sgt. Jody Tittle said he was unaware of the situation.
