Dulles CBP Detects Sri Lankan Imposter, Alien Smuggler

(Friday, March 19, 2010)

Sterling, VA – Customs and Border Protection officers at Washington-Dulles International Airport discovered a Sri Lankan imposter and an alleged alien smuggler after they arrived from Kuwait shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday.

Both men presented themselves at CBP’s primary inspection upon arrival. Each possessed Sri Lankan passports and U.S. resident alien identification cards. A CBP officer suspected one was an imposter and referred both men for a secondary passport inspection. An imposter is one who uses another’s identity documents as their own.

During this secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered that the alleged alien smuggler possessed the imposter’s alien resident card. The imposter was unable to provide the parents’ names of the person he was pretending to be. A fingerprint exam revealed the imposter’s true identity. Officer’s then learned that the imposter was denied a non-immigrant visa in January under his real name.
