    In Just 72 Hours CBP Los Angeles Nabs Seven Fugitives

    Sexual Assault, Burglary, Counterfeiting and Drug Trafficking Among Offenses

    Los Angeles— In just 72 hours, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers apprehended seven wanted persons. Six arrived from Thailand, Mexico, England, Philippines, Panama and South Korea. Another was captured prior to his departure to Mexico.

    Six of the seven interceptions occurred at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX); one was at John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County.

    Suspects were sought by authorities in California, New York, New Jersey, Nevada, Virginia and Ohio. The offenses range from sexual assault, child neglect, burglary, trademark counterfeiting to drug trafficking, drug possession and traffic violations.

    “The men and women of CBP work extremely hard every day behind the scenes, securing our nation’s borders,” said Todd C. Owen, CBP director of field operations in Los Angeles. “The apprehension of these fugitives highlights CBP officers’ keen analysis of intelligence and their determination to safeguard our citizens.”

    The interceptions occurred during the 72-hour-period between 4:30 pm on Monday July 16 to 3:45 pm on Thursday July 19. See timeline:

    On July 16, Joshua Chase Johnson arrived at SNA from Los Cabos, Mexico. The 30-year-old U.S. citizen had an outstanding warrant for traffic violations from Nevada, plus a failure to appear bench warrant from California.

    On July 17, at approximately 3:50 pm, 28-year-old Bryan Benjamin Lalezari was intercepted at LAX as he arrived from Panama. Lelezari, a U.S. citizen, had a dangerous drugs arrest warrant by Beverly Hills Police Department.

    Also on July 17, at approximately 4:14 pm, Kim Minsoo, was apprehended at LAX as he arrived from South Korea after CBP officers confirmed that that the 63-year-old Korean national had a trademark counterfeiting probation violation arrest warrant from Bergen County Sheriff’s Office in Hackensack, New Jersey.

    On July 18, around 10 am, Wesley Henry Thomason was intercepted at LAX as he arrived from Guadalajara, Mexico. The 39-year-old U.S. citizen had an outstanding warrant from the state of Virginia for failure to appear on charges of indecent liberties with a minor, carnal knowledge of a child, manufacturing explicit material and possession of a controlled drug.

    Two hours and 20 minutes later, passenger Ricardo Estrada was apprehended at LAX as he was about to board a plane in route to Guadalajara, Mexico. The 33-year-old U.S. citizen faces drug charges from San Fernando, California, Police Department.

    That same afternoon, at approximately 4:50 pm, CBP officers intercepted Safiullah Tokh as he arrived at LAX from London, England. The 18-year-old U.S. citizen had an outstanding arrest warrant for burglary charges from New York Police Department.

    Finally, on July 19, at approximately 3:45 pm, Jeffery Lynn Bullock was apprehended as he arrived from Bangkok, Thailand. Bullock, a 46-year-old U.S. citizen, had an outstanding warrant for child neglect from Ohio.

    In fiscal year 2011, U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Los Angeles apprehended a total of 499 suspects ranging from murderers, child molesters, drug traffickers to larceners.

    U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
