CBP Officers Apprehend Kidnapping Suspect at Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge

    (Wednesday, June 03, 2009)

Hidalgo, Texas – CBP officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge apprehended a man wanted by the Starr County Sheriff’s office on
    June 1, at 10 a.m.

CBP officers came in contact with the man, a northbound pedestrian traveler, at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge. While at pedestrian primary, the traveler identified himself as Antonio Jorma Ramirez, a U.S. citizen, age 27, from Donna, Texas.

Ramirez told officers that he was a wanted fugitive and wished to surrender to authorities. A check of a CBP database identified Ramirez as the subject of an outstanding criminal arrest warrant.

The warrant indicated that Ramirez was a fugitive, wanted on a state charge of kidnapping. After his arrest, Ramirez was transferred to the custody of the Starr County Sheriff’s Office and remains incarcerated.

Dave Fluty, CBP acting port director, Hidalgo/Pharr said, "Our officers did great enforcement work and I commend them for a job well done."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
