CBP Officers Apprehend Wanted Fugitive Headed to Mexico

One Semi-Automatic Tactical Rifle Seized at Andrade Port of Entry

San Diego – U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the port of San Ysidro apprehended a 29-year-old man that was on the run from the San Jose Police Department.

CBP officers conducting outbound inspections at 9 a.m. Wednesday recognized a wanted fugitive while they inspected a passenger bus headed to Mexico. One of the officers recognized the fugitive from a photo sent to them from the San Jose Police Department, asking for assistance in detaining this individual.

The man, a citizen of Mexico with no legal status in the U.S., has a warrant for his arrest for allegedly sexually assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter, according to the San Jose Police Department. Once officers recognized him, he was taken into custody without any altercation, and his identity verified.

CBP enforcement officers arrested him and transported him to San Diego County Jail where he awaits to be transported to San Jose.

CBP officers routinely conduct outbound inspections on all traffic headed into Mexico. Yesterday morning during an outbound inspection, CBP officers at the port of Andrade, Calif. seized a semi-automatic tactical rifle from a 31-year-old U.S. citizen and resident of Bakersfield, Calif.

During the inspection, CBP officers found one M-4 carbine that had been disassembled into its core components and hidden throughout the vehicle. Also, 20 rounds of ammunition were hidden with the weapon. The individual was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for processing. CBP seized the vehicle, the ammunition, and the weapon.
