U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter (07/20/2011)

Border Patrol agents seized over 7,053 pounds of marijuana, 203 pounds of cocaine, and 21.2 pounds of heroin. Agents arrested 12 criminal aliens and 12 gang members. There were four rocking incidents.

Reported on July 14, 2011


New Orleans Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Lake Charles, Louisiana. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 203 pounds of cocaine, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) and a national of the Dominican Republic at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies within the tractor. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the cocaine.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sil Nakya, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Indiana for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and had also been previously removed from the United States.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested one illegal alien from Mexico and one illegal alien from Honduras near Hebbronville, Texas. During processing, the Mexican subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño 13 gang, and the Honduran subject admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang. Records checks revealed the subject from Honduras had a prior conviction for possessing tools for forgery/counterfeiting.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,818 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle near Lukeville, Arizona. Agents observed the vehicle traveling in a remote area of the desert. Agents responded to the area, and with the assistance of a CBP Office of Air and Marine air asset, located the abandoned vehicle hidden under a tarp. A search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Quijota, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of California and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the La Raza Sureños gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Freer, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Florida for 1st degree homicide. The subject had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,947 pounds of marijuana, a pickup truck, and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ak-Chin, Arizona. With the assistance of a CBP Office of Air and Marine air asset, agents located the vehicle abandoned in the desert. The subject was apprehended after agents tracked his foot sign leading away from the vehicle. Records checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 227 pounds of marijuana near Calexico, California. Agents received a report of an ultralight aircraft (ULA) incursion and responded to the suspected drop zone, where they located the marijuana. The ULA was observed returning to Mexican airspace.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a small amount of marijuana, two .45 caliber handguns, a Lincoln sport utility vehicle, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Sierra Blanca, Texas. Agents also found over 90 credit/debit cards concealed in the vehicle.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,825 pounds of marijuana and a Ford minivan near Penitas, Texas. Agents observed two vehicles traveling north from the Rio Grande River. As agents approached, both vehicles returned to the river and the two drivers absconded into Mexico. One vehicle was driven into the river. Agents were able to recover 127 bundles of marijuana at the scene. Records checks revealed the Ford minivan had been reported stolen.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of California for lewd and lascivious acts with a child and had been previously removed from the United States.



Reported on July 18, 2011


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents recovered a stolen Chevrolet truck and seized a Heckler & Koch .45 caliber pistol near Casa Grande, Arizona. Agents found the truck abandoned and a subsequent search revealed the pistol inside the vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen in the state of Arizona.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the 18th Street gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Nebraska for assault and battery, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender in the state of Kentucky, and had been previously removed from the United States.

Blaine Sector – Border Patrol agents seized two 9mm handguns, magazines, ammunition, and holsters near Lynden, Washington. Agents observed three unidentified subjects illegally entering Canada. The subjects dropped a backpack containing the firearms and accessories after seeing the agents. Canadian authorities were notified and arrested two of the subjects.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ocotillo, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sex with a minor and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized six assault rifles, 26 magazines and 363 rounds of assorted ammunition after discovering an abandoned duffel bag near Fronton, Texas.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Cotulla, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for 2nd degree murder in the state of New York and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 21.2 pounds of heroin, a Hyundai Sonata, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the heroin.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,236 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet van near Hidalgo, Texas. Agents observed several subjects loading bundles of suspected narcotics into the van near the Rio Grande River. When agents approached, all of the subjects absconded into Mexico, abandoning the van and the marijuana.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Rosa, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for rape and burglary, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Blythe, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Oklahoma for crimes against a child/domestic abuse and had been previously removed from the United States.
