    A man from Mexico has been charged with trying to smuggle more than $1 million back across the border while driving a tractor-trailer.

    Federal prosecutors in Laredo said Monday that Jose Luis Martinez-Gonzalez faces charges of evading and failing to file currency reporting requirements. Authorities say the money was found in hidden compartments inside the truck's cab.

    The 26-year-old was arrested Saturday in Laredo .

    He awaits a detention hearing scheduled for later this month.
