CBP Officers Make Weapons Bust at Donna International Bridge

    Last Update: 2:33 pm

DONNA - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working outbound enforcement operations at the newly opened Donna International Bridge on Saturday seized 20 small caliber rifles, four shotguns, two handguns, four high-capacity magazines and 4,448 rounds of ammunition.

In the first significant seizure at the recently opened Donna International Bridge, just six days after the international bridge’s opening, CBP officers encountered a 2000 bronze GMC Sierra pickup as it attempted to exit the United States to enter Mexico. The driver, identified as a 45-year-old male citizen of Mexico who resides in McAllen, was escorted to secondary for further inspection.

In secondary, inspection of the GMC by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 20 (.22-caliber) rifles, one (20-gauge) shotgun, three (12-gauge) shotguns, one semi-automatic (.380-caliber) handgun, one (.357-caliber) revolver, four high-capacity magazines and 4,448 rounds of ammunition concealed within the GMC. CBP officers seized all the weapons, magazines and the vehicle.

CBP officers took the driver into custody and turned him over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.

“This is the first significant seizure at the Donna International Bridge and CBP officers will continue to work diligently to stem the flow of weapons out of and narcotics into the country. I congratulate our CBP officers for an outstanding job with this interception,â€
